A recent poll, commissioned by the Montreal Economic Institute, shows that a large majority of Canadians support Canada exporting energy to Europe to help European countries end their dependence on Russia. The poll, conducted by Ipsos, reported that 72% of those asked support Canadian energy exports. It also found that 68% of those asked want Canada to build the infrastructure – including pipelines – to enable the exports to take place.
Despite the Québec government’s opposition to hydrocarbon development in the province, the survey indicated that is not necessarily the view of Quebeckers. A significant majority of respondents in Québec (59%) would like to see the province develop its oil and gas resources to support European exports. A majority (53%) would like the GNL Québec LNG export project to be revived.
