North American & International Outreach
The North American & International Outreach (NAIO) initiative is the Energy Council of Canada’s signature activity. It is designed to promote and tell Canada’s energy story better and more broadly than ever before. The Energy Council of Canada is uniquely placed to draw upon the expertise of industry, government and energy organizations through its membership, to create new and compelling messages tailored to foreign audiences.
Domestic energy interests are diverse and compete fiercely for their respective share of the Canadian energy market. This is often to the economic, social and environmental advantage of Canadians. This same competition does not always lend itself easily to creating common messages for international audiences. This is where the Energy Council of Canada leads.
The Energy Council of Canada’s NAIO initiative complements efforts already made by Provincial and Federal Governments to promote Canadian energy abroad. It is an opportunity for the Canadian energy industry to speak for itself, about itself, to international audiences. Greater outreach abroad will also better inform domestic energy policy.
Program Goals:
- Promote and enhance Canada’s energy reputation abroad
- Maintain and grow external markets for Canadian energy products and services
- Draw together domestic energy interests to help Canada compete better internationally
- Attract international interest and investment in the Canadian energy sector
For much of its history, Canadian energy development has focused primarily on the domestic and US markets. The United States has been a stable, sometimes dependent purchaser of Canadian energy. This is changing and the Americans are becoming competitors where they were once customers. Canada must work harder to promote its energy products and services within established markets while also finding new ones, further afield. Specifically, the Energy Council of Canada will leverage its longstanding relationship with the United States Energy Association (USEA) to improve North American energy collaboration and development. Energy Council of Canada members will benefit from Trade Missions and other outreach activities organized under this new initiative.
Program Goals:
- Foreign trade missions and similar outreach activities from a Canadian energy industry perspective
- Individual and collective energy brands leveraged and improved together
- Collaborate, build and communicate a new Canadian energy story by appearing positively within it
- Positive messages and myth busting about the Canadian energy sector
- Promote Canada’s energy reputation to help improve investment certainty and access markets
This new initiative demonstrates the Energy Council of Canada’s positive international mandate. Stronger international communication strengthens Canadian energy at home. To learn more about participating in the NAIO outreach initiatives, please contact us at memberservices@energy.ca.
