Residents of Bruce, Grey, and Huron Counties in Ontario have expressed confidence in the safety of the neighbouring Bruce Power nuclear facility. The market research company, Ipsos, surveyed residents of the three counties. And, in a result that should be encouraging for proponents of the benefits of nuclear power, found that 90% of those surveyed “were confident the nuclear facility operates safely, and agreed Bruce Power is a good community citizen.” There was also strong support (82%) for the facility’s component replacement and life extension program, currently underway. Many respondents cited environmental reasons for their support. They recognized nuclear power as a carbon-free electricity source.
