On 29 February 2024, ECC President Jacob Irving published an Op Ed in The Hill Times newspaper.

The head of the International Energy Agency, Dr. Fatih Birol, had visited Canada in 2023. In answer to a question about Canada’s role in reducing GHG emissions, Dr. Birol pointed to the country’s leading position in Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS). Mr. Irving picks up on Dr. Birol’s message and argues that not only is CCUS beneficial in and of itself but it is also an enabler of zero-emitting hydrogen as an energy source.

Canada has a number of critical attributes that support the advancement of both CCUS and hydrogen. Not the least of which is our industry-leading expertise and experience in both. Mr. Irving makes the case that we have all the ingredients to make this industry pairing particularly powerful in advancing the energy transition.
