The Canadian government is discussing what can be done to accelerate the development of two proposed LNG export facilities in the Maritimes. Repsol of Spain is considering operations in New Brunswick, while Pieridae of Canada has proposed a facility in Nova Scotia. The government has also discussed with European countries Canada’s potential as a natural gas source. The Minister of Natural Resources Canada, Jonathon Wilkinson, has said that they are exploring how to speed the projects while keeping them consistent with both environmental considerations and a long-term transition to a lower-carbon future.
