Both environmental and industry spokespersons are optimistic that the skills already in the Alberta workforce will be in demand in a renewable energy future. The engineering and technical expertise that are critical to the oil and gas industry will be just as important for renewable energy facilities, for example large carbon capture and storage installations. New infrastructure will need the same construction workers that have built the oil and gas industry. In addition, the province’s natural resources, such as natural gas for hydrogen production, are valuable assets for the growth of new technologies.
