On 17 May Premier Jason Kenny will appear before the US Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. The visit follows an invitation from Senator Joe Manchin, the Committee’s Chair, during his visit to Calgary earlier this year. Alberta officials expect that the Premier’s remarks to the Committee will focus on North American energy security, reliability, and affordability. It is also expected that the Premier will talk about the province’s progress on emissions reductions, as well as the other natural resources that it could export to the US. Alberta is eager to expand Canadian petroleum exports south of the border. It is expected that will ease to a degree global supply pressures arising from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Both countries have expressed an interest in closer cooperation on energy.
