In his appearance before the US Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, Jason Kenney questioned the Biden Administration’s approach to increasing US petroleum supplies in response to the crisis in Europe and soaring energy prices. In particular, he asked why the US had approached Iran and Venezuela to increase exports to the US. Kenney’s view was that Canada has the capacity to export more petroleum to the US. Moreover, Canada is closer and has political and social values that align with America’s, unlike those countries.
He also called into question the revocation of TC Energy’s permit to construct the Keystone Pipeline, as well as Michigan’s intention to decommission Enbridge’s Line 5 line that has been in operation since 1953.
