In September 2023 Canada will host what might be the most important World Petroleum Congress in the event’s history. The 24th annual Congress begins 17 September 2023 in Calgary. Its theme is The Path to Net Zero. The petroleum industry is facing the challenge of fundamentally changing the way that it operates and coming to terms with a much more demanding consumer market. The Congress brings together industry members, service and support industry representatives, governments, stakeholders, and others with an interest in oil and gas. It draws participants from around the world.

The Congress is put on every three years by the World Petroleum Council (WP Council), an international NGO with members in 60 countries. The Council describes its mission this way:

The Council provides a platform for sharing technical innovations, scientific developments, and thought leadership across the industry, addressing social and environmental challenges with a commitment towards sustainable management and use of the world’s petroleum resources for the benefit of all.

The Congress is an opportunity to gather and exchange information and ideas. A part of the Congress is the presentation of papers on various issues connected with petroleum. World Petroleum Council – Canada is currently accepting proposals for next year’s Congress. Interested researchers are asked to submit their proposals in the form of an abstract by the 22nd of August of this year. The Energy Council of Canada urges anyone interested in submitting a paper not to miss the opportunity to share your work with a global audience at the Calgary Congress.
